Maine's great news garage. Count on us for fair, friendly service!
Welcome to our repair shop. We opened for business on July 2nd 2011. We are a family owned and run business.
Steven Woodsum is a Master Mechanic and son Keith Woodsum is a Certified Technician. We are a full service mechanical repair shop located in the Kents Hill neighborhood of Readfield, Maine.
Steve began his love of tinkering on cars as a little boy while watching his Dad work on machines. He has been working on cars since he was twelve when he bought his first car, an old 1955 Nash Rambler Station Wagon. He grew up in Ridgefield Connecticut and often walked by Bob Sharp's repair garage and first race shop. He loved looking at the cars and talking with the men and got his first job there sweeping floors. He stayed with Bob Sharp through high school learning many things about engines, race cars, and being a go-fer! Many happy times were had with Paul Newman and his family as he began his racing career with Bob Sharp in Wilton, CT.
Steve joined the Navy after high school and worked in the Underwater Demolition Team and in Electronic Warfare. He spent a year on the USS WASP, an aircraft carrier, followed by two years in Italy aboard the USS Springfield, a guided missle cruiser and flag ship of the Sixth Fleet, where one job was teaching sailing to officers. Upon his return to the states he settled first in Wayne and then in Readfield. He went to work as a mechanic for Blouin Motors in Augusta and worked his way up to Parts Manager and then to Service Manager. As life often does, he decided to shift careers and worked in a small garage in town, Readfield Exxon and attended college at UMF. After graduation he taught History in the public school system for 30 years before retiring from public education to teach college classes and to run this shop with his third and youngest son Keith. He always maintained a small shop at home where he serviced various cars but especially his favorites, Alfa Romeos, which he fell in love with while living in Italy.
Keith grew up around cars since Steve always fixed cars at home. He loved spending time with Dad and learning all about how things went together. He became expert at taking things apart and rebuilding them. He owns an amazing collection of LEGO's as well as many computers he designed and built. After studying computer science and drafting in high school at Mt. Blue in Farmington, upon graduation he studied Automotive Repair at Central Maine Community College. While still attending college the opportunity came up to lease our current garage space, so he and Dad renovated the space and began work. It was quite an accomplishment to own his own business while graduating in 2012.
Keith enjoys rebuilding engines, running diagnostics on electrical and computer systems in vehicles, and helping folks out with their repair needs. He does a great job running the repair office and managing our self storage units. Take a look at his incredible talent in building and painting miniatures in the showcase in the office. He also designs and creates laser-cut wood and acrylic items for gaming, miniature role-playing gaming scenery and gift items, some of which are also on display.
We look forward to meeting you.
